I have started a group, the Interdisciplinary Research Committee on Health Disparities (IRCHD), to address minority health disparities. The group consists of minority junior faculty, post docs, and advanced graduate students across disciplines and institutions committed to conducting research to reduce minority health disparities.

I received a competitive Research Supplement to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research from the National Cancer Institute (NCI). This supplement stems from the Detroit Community Network Program (CNP) [U01 CA114583-02S2A1; PI: T. L. Albrecht]. The Detroit CNP is a five-year effort that seeks to reduce cancer health disparities in breast, prostate, colorectal and lung cancers which adversely affect older African Americans in metropolitan Detroit.

I will be attending the National Cancer Institute’s 2007 Professional Development Workshop in May 2007.

My poster titled “Adolescent Age and Gender Affect Parental Decisions About Adolescent Alcohol Use,” has been accepted to the Risky Decision Making Across the Lifespan theme session at the 2007 Association for Psychological Science (APS) Convention to be held May 24 - 27 in Washington, D.C.

I am scheduled to present a poster - The Effects of Adolescent Age and Gender on Parental Decision about Adolescent Mental Health - at the 10th Annual Joint Fellows Conference in Lisle, Illinois the weekend of November 2 - 5, 2006.

I will also be a discussion leader for the lunchtime discussion session. The lunchtime discussion is designed to facilitate networking for the research fellows in attendance at the conference.
